Winter Solstice: Death & Dying

Writer's picture: Karen PierceKaren Pierce

As individuals confront the disorganization in their spaces, they often find themselves facing the deeper layers of their identities, grappling with attachments tied to memories, old narratives, limiting beliefs, self-worth, and ego.  We may find that the shedding of the ego is not just a personal journey, but a collective necessity.

The profound wisdom of Dolores Cannon asks us to explore the realms where science & spirituality intertwine.  I’ve said before “why can’t science and the sacred exist simultaneously?”  Imagine a power so immense, that without it, everything as we know it would simply disintegrate into nothingness.  But instead, at the heart of this power is an extreme intelligence, a source of unimaginable love, from which all existence was created.  This philosophical musing asks us to question our origins and the interconnectedness of all of life; that everything in existence emanates from this original Source.  This Source, which some relate to the concept of God/Goddess, is unbounded & free; a timeless, limitless, borderless, formless, weightless, genderless, immortal, multi-dimensional, divine, infinite intelligent, cosmic Source of all existence. And our Soul – what I call infinity sparks or divine fractals of Source light - originated from this unity Consciousness.

Niall Harbinson raises some excellent considerations: “In 100 years, we’ll all be buried with our friends and family.  Strangers will live in our homes which we worked so hard to build.  Someone else will own everything that we have today.  Most of our possessions will be given away, thrown out, or destroyed including the car that we worked so hard for that will end up being scrap metal.  Our descendants will hardly know who we are, nor will they remember us.  I mean how many of us know who our grandfather’s father actually was.  After we die, we’ll be remembered for a few more years before we become a portrait on someone else’s wall.  A few decades later, our history, photos and deeds will disappear into history’s oblivion.  We won’t even be memories.”

In a world rife with challenges, the awareness of physical mortality becomes inescapable.  Between “deadly” viruses, catastrophic environmental events, and so many global conflicts & wars, we are being confronted with facing the inevitability of physical death on a global level.

For some, it’s been another year of challenge, loss and grief, while some it may have been a reprieve.  And, for others it was a combination of both.  Many of us are asking, “Where did all the time go? What did I do with this past year?”

As we wind down another wild year, keep in mind that you survived the last couple of years!  At this moment on our planet, our world is in great transition.  I know it’s a busy & stressful time so don’t forget to pause & breathe.  This month is all about closure and getting rid of that which no longer serves you.  The new year is also an opportunity to look ahead with clarity and conscious intention.

Between the winter solstice and the end of another year, there is a sense of culmination & endings. We may begin to feel that things have reached a closure point, or that we can no longer continue the way we have been.  The big question is how to change life for the better.

Solstice & Samhain

Solstice means sun or “sol stands still”.  Twice a year we experience a Solstice.  In June, the northern hemisphere is tilted the most toward the sun and in December, the southern hemisphere is tilted the most toward the sun.

In the Northern Hemisphere, on December 21st, our Winter Solstice, we’ll reach maximum tilt away from the Sun so the days will be getting shorter.  Nature has these built-in check points or still points for us to cross.  The Power Path says, “a still point creates an opportunity where we can access the void, the space between the past we are releasing and the future which has not yet been manifest.  This is a time of completion and focusing on what you are leaving behind more so than what you wish to manifest in the future.”

The Winter Solstice, the “darkest time”, offers us the opportunity to be with the dark, to be present, and to go within and dive deep as we embrace the returning of the light.  The longest night of the year is an opportunity to go inward into your own depths to reflect, revise, restructure, revalue, repattern, recommit, and release.  Remember those RE-words?  So, we can discover who we want to become and what dreams we wish to manifest.

The Cailleach is the Hag, the old woman, and the crone As the one who brings the winter, she invites us downwards, earthwards, inwards, towards death.

Samhain marks the end of the old year and the beginning of the new. The day began as darkness fell, it gestated in the blackness, just as we do, and gave birth to itself with the returning of the light.  The Celts believed the veil between the living and the dead is especially thin.  It also signals the beginning of winter and a time to honor our ancestors, and in the remembering of the dead as a society we conjure shadows & shades, the ghosts of the past.

Many throughout the country have experienced winters of the heart & soul already.  And as the year ends and we move into the season of darkness, many find they are facing the challenge of navigating a new year.  In addition, the holidays can bring up a mix of emotions, especially if you’re missing a loved one.   It doesn’t matter if it’s because you are grieving the loss of a loved one or the state of the world.   Grief is a unique and personal journey, and your holiday experience may not always align with the expectations of others. There’s nothing wrong with you, you’re just grieving.

Loss gives us 2 choices:  It can make your heart grow, or it can make it shrink.

It's okay not to feel okay. Lower frequencies such as suffering & anger provide us the opportunity to clear them and raise our frequency/vibration.  Earth is the Heart School, where suffering opens our hearts and allows us to feel.   Your heart is spacious enough to hold all these feelings, and they are all valid parts of your journey.  Give yourself permission to grieve…and to breathe.

All endings, all points of closure, hold the promise of a new beginning, eventually giving rise to rebirth.  A light at the end of the tunnel may suddenly appear, guiding us to a new solution or a new beginning.  Obstacles are not setbacks, but steppingstones orchestrated by the Divine YOUniverse to lead you towards a greater purpose.  Surrendering to the Divine allows more gifts & guidance to be received.

Looking ahead to the New Year, I'll be sharing some ideas on how to prepare you and your family for End of Life (EOL).

We enter life with an inhale;
We exit life with an exhale.
And in-between, we live for those moments
That take our breath away.

According to Dolores Cannon, “nobody dies until they are ready to die.”  You make contracts and agreements prior to incarnation, and you also make an exit plan.  You decide how you’re going to die and how you’re going to exit, even though you may not know/remember it consciously.  You plan how you’re going to leave the body when the time comes – whether it’s a train wreck or peacefully in your sleep or anything in between.

I believe we all enter our physical journey with contracted “Exit Points”.  Exit points offer the Soul a release from this life path if it becomes too challenging and there is no way to get back on track or when the Soul has completed its Earth mission & returns to Source.  An exit point is a chance to leave the physical body and return to spirit.  It’s an opening to be released from our meat suit – that near-fatal car accident, a life-threatening illness or shaman sickness, an anaphylactic reaction, or…accidental electrocution.  Have you ever experienced that near-miss that left you feeling like you are lucky to be alive?  Your free-will choices can lead to a hopeful outcome or the worst-case scenario

You can leave alone or in groups.  We are born in Soul groups, so you can leave with the group such as major earthquakes, 9/11, pandemics, etc.  Nothing is an accident; it’s all meticulously planned ahead of time.  The Soul always knows whether to remain or cross over to the spirit realm.  When you understand this, you can look at death & dying with a totally different perspective.  Death is a window of opportunity just like birth.

I mentioned in December 2021’s musing about my near electrocution.  I had been saying how very soul tired I was and feeling ready to leave the planet.  Definitely an exit point but I guess I have more work to do.

I also mentioned in my March 2024 musings, that 2021 was a big year for group/global exit points and that it would continue through 2025.   Many people, unhealthy & healthy, took that opportunity as they felt their contract was complete or that the coming years would be too much of a struggle and they were already soul tired.  Along the way we have seen many souls – humans & animals – passing over.

At that time, my guides also told me to expect “catastrophic death” beyond what we had already seen.  I feel that 2025 is the year of death they mentioned especially as a 9 universal year, meaning endings, death & rebirth in numerology.  Even astrologers are saying there are even bigger transits for us in 2025-2026 than what we saw in 2020-2021.  The frequencies of the earth are changing and some of us have been feeling the effects especially with all the solar activity in 2024.   I’m sharing this as a reminder that we are living in epic times and the journey ahead is unchartered territory.  And…you are here for a reason!

Breathing in, breathing out,

Moving forward, moving back,

Living, dying, coming, going –

Like two arrows meeting in flight,

In the midst of nothingness

Is the road that goes directly

To my true home.

~ Gesshu Soko

One of my yoga teachers, Mark Whitwell, reflects “the human condition right now is truly terrible. War, poverty, boredom, relationship dysfunction, sexual abuse, mental insanity and predatory behaviours of all kinds, all of which are caused by the fundamental denial of our natural state. We long to feel authentic and relax into our natural life. It is time now to do this. To give up the struggle and enjoy the livingness that we already are.”

Uppaluri Gopala Krishnamurti (affectionately called “UG”; he said for “Ugly Guy”) explains why all our teachings on love, brotherhood, compassion, and all our political & cultural efforts to build a society based on the values of equality, freedom & dignity have hardly touched the core of our being.  It’s because all our ideas & ideals have not percolated to the cellular structure of our being (heart) but have remained in the field of thinking (head/ego).  We can go on changing human institutions infinitely and yet the imperfections will break through all those establishments.

In 1970, I went to my first funeral at age 6; it was for my maternal grandfather.  There was a 20-year gap between my mother and her step-siblings so all our relatives were quite old which meant many funerals growing up.

When I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter, my paternal grandfather passed away as well as 2 friends who died in a small plane crash over Easter weekend 1993; they were 47.  Linda and I were co-workers and during one of our lunches, she shared that she felt she and her husband were going to die together at a young age.  During our lunch breaks, we often talked about the afterlife and what that might look like.  Shortly after their deaths, I was ironing, and she spoke to me in spirit form that the other side was exactly like we talked about.   It was as if she was standing right beside me.

I also lost 2 friends to suicide.  I can’t imagine the pain they were in to make that choice.  But I can understand the desperation in feeling like no one is listening and feeling soul tired.  Right before Christmas in 2017, Dan’s best man from our wedding ended his life at age 54; no one had a clue that he was in so much emotional pain and his death was quite brutal.  His suicide was not public knowledge.  Spirit gave me some insight and details, so I contacted his sister who confirmed what my spirit team had shown me.  He told me he thought by ending his life, it would end his pain.  It did not.  He was surprised so he asked for emotional assistance and my friend Audrey & I did a crossing over ceremony for him.

In 2019, another friend planned out his suicide down to the last detail.  He was found in a very public place.  He and I had had several conversations about the afterlife, which he didn’t believe in.  He was an atheist and believed there is nothing after death.  So, when I checked in with him right after he died, he was very confused that he still existed.  When I asked if he wanted help crossing over, he told me no.  The only thing I could do was to ask his spirit guides and allies on the other side to surround & cocoon him in the love-light and know that he was being protected until he was ready to move on.

In 2023, a family member died “suddenly”.  This year, we lost 2 friends to “turbo” cancerBoth were high school friends but one was Dan’s best friend which was very difficult. We were so grateful to have seen him prior to his death.  I was even able to offer him energy healing in the hospital.  Dan told me later that he was watching the monitors as I worked, and they all dropped and leveled out.  That was pretty cool!

There were many, many more funerals.  Probably more than most people go to in their lifetime.  All difficult but not as hard as when my mom died at age 49.  My mom’s dying process prepared me for becoming a death doula.  After her death, a good friend suggested I become a Hospice volunteer to help with the grieving process.  I had been so impressed with the care that Hospice had provided my mom that I wanted to give that back.  And I did for the next 10 years.  Then life with small kids made it difficult for me to continue.  During the years in between, I was able to train as a shamanic practitioner which allowed me to journey to other dimensions including the afterlife.

After my 2021 near-electrocution, my spirit guides were nudging me to become a death doula and return to volunteering at Hospice.  I know better than to ignore spirit when they call!  So, I followed their suggestion.

Death is inevitable, and in many ways, it's just a form of change. While it often feels overwhelming and frightening, it’s really a transition from the physical to the spiritual, from the tangible to the intangible. This shift affects everyone and everything. Just as the seasons change, the moon waxes & wanes, the tides ebb & flow, and the sun rises & sets, all aspects of life experience their own endings.

Near Death Experiences (NDEs)

Cannon explains further, “the afterlife described by those who had had a NDE is a place of extraordinary beauty, with vibrant colors, and perfect flowers that never die.”  She continues, “NDEs are often accompanied by the presence of deceased relatives or guardian angels, providing comfort and guidance during the transition.”  In other words, you are never alone going into the “great unknown”.

Dannion Brinkley died 4 times which is chronicled in his best seller book Saved by the Light.  If you talk to most people who have had an NDE, there is never a question about life after this one.  Dannion also became a Hospice Volunteer…34,000 hours bedside sitting with 2,010 people as they were dying.  My kids would say that depressing!  But it’s not.  It is such a gift to be invited into such a personal experience and I hope I have the opportunity to sit vigil for thousands of people like Dannion.

“One of the most difficult things you will do during this period of great change is say Goodbye to someone you love or, have loved in the past.”

~ Alison David Bird

NDEs have a profound effect on the survivor typically for the positive.  My husband Dan was about 5 when he nearly drowned.  He took a breath in, and it became very peaceful; the classic tunnel of light.  Rather than tyring to move toward it, it simply dimmed slowly. He doesn’t remember the hours after, only that his parents and siblings were all very quiet.

A friend of mine had an NDE after an ovarian cyst ruptured when she was 27. When she arrived at the hospital the pain was so extraordinary she screamed and passed out. Her NDE began on that exhale. She went out of her body and found herself in a beautiful place that was peach, pink and white.  She felt a presence and a voice said, “You can come home if you want.”  She was shown her life review up to that moment.  Then she was shown her future if she returned to her body.  She didn’t want to reincarnate and start over.  She thought to herself “I have promises I have to keep” so she made the choice to return.  Her NDE ended on an inhale as she returned to her body.  She doesn’t remember what promises she made but her whole life changed.  She realized she was on borrowed time and had a renewed purpose to fulfill those promises.

After a surfing accident, one of my favorite mystical musicians, Will Evans, wrote this song about his NDE - “All My Relations”.  “Hold me close, I’m falling out of reach.  I can feel the spirits calling me.  My body and the sea, all my relations come to welcome me.  It’s falling out of reach, moving farther from the ground beneath.  My body and the sea, banded in the stars above.  I will sleep.”

The story of Mellen-Thomas Benedict is a remarkable story of dying and then returning to life.  Before Benedict moved toward the light, he asked to talk to God/Universe before going.  He learned the big bang is only one of an infinite number of big bangs creating universes endlessly & simultaneously.  And black holes are the great processors or recyclers of the universe.

He rode on this stream of consciousness, and he asked to see the rest of the universe beyond all human illusion.  What he was really seeing was our Higher Self matrix, or an oversoul part of our being.  In that moment, he realized you are in control of your life-after-death experience.  In other words, we have the power to create as we explore.

The universe is bursting with many different varieties of life, many worlds.  All celestial bodies generate a unique matrix of light, sound, and vibratory energies.

It is believed that your NDE experience is a feedback loop of your own stuff as in the case of our best man whose pain continued and my atheist friend who I sensed very confused, floating in a dark void.

“If I’m dead, why does my butt still itch?”

~ Nancy from the Basement (TV show, Ghosts)

Another perspective from Dr. Neruda is the idea of Lucifer & the fallen angels in Hell.  This creates the perfect polarity to the Kingdom of Heaven.  The hierarchy of good & evil, sin & salvation; demons & darkness versus angels & light.

Even the concept of God is used by religions to separate ourselves, forever seeking enlightenment through belief reinforced by culture, family, education & religion.  Consider the concept of the “chosen” ones and that the light illuminates those who follow certain practices:

1.      Reincarnation & karma.

2.      Be good & obedient and go to Heaven.

3.      Ascend to a higher plane of existence & become a teacher within the hierarchy.

The various religions & esoteric cults support the master-student hierarchical relationship as well as a multi-leveled afterlife of reward or punishment.  For example, hell is each person’s customized human misery, ignorance, and darkness of not knowing.  Yet, there is a little star of light that is always available, but many don’t pay attention to it as they are so consumed with their own grief, trauma, and misery.   Even the afterlife is a form of enslavement as an “authoritative figure” offers your next life options for reincarnation at your life review.  If we really understood that we are infinite Consciousness, we would never have to reincarnate!  That gives “go to the light” a whole new meaning.

Dawson Church explains that not only do our bodies work at the energy level, at the level of electricity & electromagnetism, they also work at the level of light.

Researcher Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp discovered that living tissues emit photons, little particles or waves of light.  All living tissues emit light, and the light signature of a healthy cell is very different from the light signature of an unhealthy cell, which Dr. Popp calls biophotons.

The dying cell actually releases its light, it will release its biophotons rapidly and then eventually die.  So, they can actually tell the health of a cell and of an organ by the amount of coherent light that cell or that organ is emitting.

It seems the NDE is a necessary prelude to enlightenment as it has been the pattern in the lives of sages.  UG Krishnamurti had a NDE in 1953 and 14 years later it led him to what he called a “natural state”.  During that time, he experienced tremendous physical changes and experiences of awakening Kundalini (or Serpent power) including sparkles, like a phosphorous glow, when he rubbed his palms or any part of his body.  The 10 billion cells in the brain and the 100 billion connecting cells in the body has to undergo a biological transformation.  What he termed his “calamity.”

It is said when Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) came into the state of nirvana, he did not say, “I am liberated,” but “It is liberated”.  Meaning a state of awareness, of being.  It was the end of all questions, the end of all answers.  It is the cessation of the need to know (ego) that which cannot be known.

While traditionally viewed through the lens of neuroscience and psychology, NDEs also intersect with metaphysical concepts such as reincarnation. Many individuals who report NDEs describe vivid encounters with a light or a tunnel, a sensation of leaving their physical bodies, and meeting deceased loved ones or spiritual beings. These encounters often share similarities with accounts of reincarnation, where individuals recall past lives during moments of heightened awareness or trauma. Such parallels suggest a potential link between NDEs and the cyclical nature of life and death as understood in various spiritual & religious traditions. Exploring these connections may offer deeper insights into the mysteries of existence and the continuity of consciousness beyond mortal life.

Reincarnation/Recycling

The concept of multiple lifetimes (reincarnation) allows for continuous learning and mastery of different skills & experiences.  It is believed there are 2 reasons for incarnation: (1) to learn lessons, and (2) complete or resolve karma.

As we grow and learn with each death, we have the opportunity to go to higher and different places in the afterlife based on our vibration & frequency.  As cosmic explorers, our evolution extends far beyond the confines of this universe.  Our spiritual exploration includes other galaxies, dimensions, and forms of existence to uncover the many mysteries of Creation.  The concept of God/Goddess as the Source in Cannon’s work transcends traditional religious boundaries, presenting a more expansive, inclusive view of divinity that resonates with the essence of all spiritual paths and scientific explorations.

Because the Soul’s journey spans numerous lifetimes, each with its own unique lessons and experiences, it adds to our collective Consciousness.  When we exit, we return to Source - what I sometimes call the cosmic sea of ultimate & limitless love.  You can stay here, floating in bliss, as long as you wish until you decide if you would like once again to return to the eternal quest for knowledge & experience.  We return out of divine love and an unconditional devotion to serve the greatest good for all beings.

Dr. Neruda has a very different perspective of reincarnation with its constructs like the soul and eternal life.  He says this deeply held belief has created a “ladder of consciousness that stretched into infinity in which the student was forever trying to learn more to progress higher on the ladder.”  He calls this recycling rather than reincarnation.  This polarity keeps humans firmly anchored in separation and deception.  For you can’t be infinite in a finite reality.  More on this in February 2025’s musings on the Matrix.

Fear of Death

All major enlightenment traditions in India teach that ignorance of our true nature is the fear of death.  Often, your deepest fears point you toward your most significant potential and untapped gifts.  It’s not about being fearless, but about facing your fears with an open heart and mind.

Just like Buddha & Jesus, UG was a living example of that transcendental state of being.  He stressed over and over that the natural state - nirvana, enlightenment, Self-realization, or whatever term we want to use - is a pure and simple physical and physiological state of being, where it is not the Self or the mind, but a different kind of extreme intelligence that is in operation.  You come to a point where you reject your own path as well.

UG says thought is matter, vibration, sound, and when it stops, the whole atomic structure of thought explodes.  This is ego death.  UG describes “I” or the Self, as a squatter; it has superimposed itself on every cell of the body with centuries of culture, education and training along with age-old memories, experiences, fears, anxieties, sense of lack, and insecurity, hence throwing the body out of its natural state.  The whole 14 million years of the past is embedded in the individual. This is epigenetics.  All your thoughts and feelings are not part of you, it is social and psychological content functioning IN you.  The role of the mind as dictator is over.  When there is no use for it, it is gone.  Then there is silence, pure Consciousness, Consciousness without thought.

Freed from the tyranny of knowledge, politics, science and religion, Buddha & UG believed mental projections or constructs of the mind are a hindrance to the natural state (nirvana).

In 2007, on his death-bed, this anti-guru guru talks about his view of life in “Swan Song.”  At 89 years old, his body resembling the emaciated Buddha, UG passed away quietly, no prayers, no rituals, no funeral rites.  UG died the way he lived, with no fear, no anxiety, no ego.

What if each one of us takes a good look at what we'd like to let go of, especially core beliefs and our ego?  Dr. Neruda asks, “if you could drop all of your add-ons, beliefs, thought patterns, fears, guilt, stories, judgments, blames, pretenses…everything that hangs on you from the past, everything you have been taught & told and programmed to believe – what would be left?”

Suzi Crockford shares, “Life, while we have it, is full of all those mini-deaths; relationships end, friendships grow apart, jobs change, and unfinished projects are completed. What about all those consumable items?  Things we have used up, thrown out, eaten, drank, and even wasted.”

Our cultural shadow is being shown to us every day.  Just scroll through social media or turn on the TV and you should be appalled at our collective behavior.  There are many reasons to cry…Mother Earth under attack, never-ending wars, human trafficking, toxic patriarchy, violence against women, non-white discrimination, and systems that are corrupt & fear based.  We are going through a collective transformation which includes releasing trauma from the present and the past.  Many lives of accumulated trauma & grief, some small and some catastrophic.  It’s time to disentangle ourselves from this old programming and paradigms.

The Last Goodbye: Make your Wishes Known

But best are the deaths of those aspects of ourselves that we no longer need or no longer want.  With an open and loving heart say, "thank you for the lesson, goodbye.”

When we learn about death, we learn about life.

Many people are embracing a new form for saying goodbye to family members and other loved ones.   According to an April 2024 Consumer Reports national representative survey of 2,042 adults in the US, only 50% said they planned or intend to plan ahead either for their own funeral or for someone else’s.

Because of what I believe is coming in 2025, I encourage you to have some courageous conversations.

It’s important to put your end-of-life plans in an advance directive, a legal document of your healthcare and other wishes.  You can fill out this state-specific form yourself and give copies to key family members, friends, and your medical doctor.

Advance Care Planning & Medical Emergency Packet:

  • Will

  • Living Will & Advance Directive – appointing a healthcare representative

  • Durable Power of Attorney – your advocates

  • Guardianship / Custody / Pets

  • Life / Disability / Low-term Care Insurance

  • Distribution of assets & personal items

  • Life Extending Procedures - CPR, Feeding Tubes, Breathing Machine / Artificial Respiration, Artificial Nutrition & Hydration, Antibiotics, Surgery, Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNR), etc.

  • Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST)

  • Caregiver Guidelines & Personal Wishes – having courageous conversations

  • Legacy / Remembrance Projects – writing your story, scrapbook/photos, letters to loved ones, videos, scholarship in your memory, etc.

  • Vigil Planning & Final Exit - the death you most prefer & least prefer

  • Burial / Funeral / Memorial – traditional or green.

  • The person I want to make care decisions for me when I can’t.

  • The kind of medical treatment I want or don’t want.

  • How comfortable I want to be.

  • How I want people to treat me.

  • What I want my loved ones to know.

Or consider creating a “when I die” file and sharing it with loved ones.  Online sources such as Prisidio and Everplans will make your advance directive and other essential information – such as life insurance account passwords – available to a trusted person or two when they’re needed.

  • Nokbox Vital Records Organizer

  • "Fuck I’m Dead" End-of-Life Planner

Documents aside, it’s also a good idea to talk with family members about your end-of-life preferences so that you can work through any questions or concerns.  Need a hand getting the conversation started?  Tips on the Conversation Project website will help pave the way.  Ensure your wishes on a “good Death” are known and honored by speaking up & writing your desires down.

“I would like a party filled with laughter and fond memories.”

There are now more ways than ever to personalize end-of-life (EOL) arrangements as well as keeping them low-cost.

Here are a few more helpful resources:

Let me ask you a question…you are preparing to leave the body and embark on the journey of spirit that lies ahead.  Faced with the unknown about the next life experience, can you trust yourself, your heart, to a divine energy?

Death is about to take you.  There is a council of your death, which is assessing you on a higher level.  You also have an advocate who is recommending that you should be given some more life on this earth.   Suppose you were given some more time in this world…iett could be days, months, years, weeks, decades, I don't know.   How would you use that life extension to ensure you are better equipped and better suited to travel to the next life experience?

Death is waiting.  It is weighing your heart as you consider your response.  Remember, in July I introduced you to the Goddess Ma’at and the judgment hall with its set of scales where truth of the heart is weighted against a feather?

Can you forgive yourself?  If the answer is yes, great.  However, if there is any hesitation, if there is any heaviness in your heart that tipped the scales, are you able to release those wounds, find balance, and acknowledge that you are worthy?

Part of finding balance might include a cosmic clear out, making way for new beginnings in the endless cycle of existence.

Cosmic Clear-out

There are many different ways of handling challenges and stresses:

  • Creativity – writing, painting, music, etc.

  • Moving - whether it’s dancing, kickboxing, yoga, etc.  (Wise yogis know that yoga & meditation are key to self-care & sanity.)

  • Self-care – anything that supports your physical, emotional, mental & spiritual wellness.

  • Community

  • Rest & Relax - staying close to home where it feels supportive and safe.

  • Focusing on the positive and coming from a place of gratitude.

  • Ceremony – rituals are intentional, personal, meaningful, symbolic actions that help us move through times of transition & change.

  • Using numerology and astrology to help navigate this earth journey.

How to use your birth chart to face life’s biggest reckoning.

As I mentioned, 2025 numerologically is a 9 year…a year of endings.

Just like numerology, astrology is the study of cycles, in this case the stars & planets.  Theresa Reed, author of The Cards You’re Dealt: How to Deal when Life Gets Real, says the place to start is the 8th house, the area of death, transition & metamorphosis.  However, any house in your natal chart can be involved in your death.  Some say that there are 4-8 “Crisis Windows” or opportunities for transformation – physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual.

It takes a combination of a natal planet being “triggered” and a transit(s) to be the catalyst to create a crisis or window of opportunity.  The Sun (luminary) and Mars (anger) are often key “triggers” to major life choices & changes – job change, accident, surgery, birth, relocation, retirement, death, etc.

Take a look at your natal chart and the planets that reside in the 8th house of “sex, taxes & death.” This will point to your journey.  The key planets are:

  • Saturn – the planet of restrictions, reaction & responsibility.  It’s also Father Time – when your time’s up – but a Saturn death doesn’t happen quickly; it’s slow and painful.

  • Uranus – the planet of rebellion, sudden or catalytic things happening.  A Uranus death is always sudden.  It’s linked to unexpected surgery and weird or unusual accidents – sky diving, bungee jumping, car accident, air crash, lightning bolt, or electricity jolt.  Thanks Uranus!

  • Neptune – the planet of the underworld would mean water-related deaths.  Drowning accidents, a flood, suffocation, fluid in your lungs, drug overdoses, death by virus, or strange disappearance.  There’s often a cloak of mystery with Neptune unless there it is really at the time of death which means peacefully dying in their sleep.

  • Mars - the co-ruler of surgery but is most known as the ruler of anger, temper tantrums, and testosterone.  Deaths with Mars are usually violent & sudden and come from a place of Ego.

  • Pluto – the planet of power & death reflects your family history, spiritual baggage & ancestral karma.  If you’re willing to transform and change, Pluto will support you.  But if you don’t, Pluto will push back, and nothing can save you.  It often means violence, sudden heart attack, or massive trauma of the body.  At least, it’s a swift death.

As we approach the holiday season, I want you to take a moment to reflect on your resilience.  There may have been a time when you didn't know how you were going to make it through the holidays.  For anyone grieving, may you find peace & strength to continue your earth journey.  Please be mindful and make time for self-care, especially your nervous system.  Just remember the Divine loves you.  Your Spirit Team has your back.  And your loved ones in spirit truly are close.   You are never alone, and you are very very loved.

Thanks for being here on this cosmic “Near Life Experience” with me.  We’re all bound in oneness and what happens to one happens to all.  I’m looking forward to rolling with the tide & going with the flow with you.  Happy Solstice and Samhain blessings for the holiday season.  Wishing you a bright, healthy, and prosperous New Year!
